The Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art, a prominent museum not just in Sapporo but also across Hokkaido, is approximately a 5-minute walk from the 4th exit of Nishi 18-Chome Station.
Since a tour of the museum can easily consume 1-2 hours, many visitors prefer to travel light.
If you’re one such visitor, you may be wondering whether to use the lockers at Nishi 18-Chome Station or at the museum itself. We’ve investigated the locker facilities at the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art for you.
Lockers at the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art
Surprisingly, the lockers at the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art are available for free. Hence, we highly recommend utilizing these lockers when you visit.
Left-side Lockers
Once you enter the museum, walk through the large central area and head to the far end on both sides. There, you will find coin lockers.
The lockers on the left side include:
- 8 small transparent lockers
- 18 small semi-transparent lockers
- 8 large lockers
These lockers come with keys, and the large ones are spacious enough to store a suitcase. By depositing 100 yen, which is refunded to you, you can use these lockers for free!
Right-side Lockers
Likewise, there are lockers on the right side.
- 32 small transparent lockers
These lockers are also free and key-operated. It’s indeed rare to find places that offer coin locker services for free these days.
Editor’s Note
In total, there are 66 lockers available at two locations within the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art.
While Nishi 18-Chome Station may be a good option for storing suitcases, if you have smaller items or jackets, we recommend making your way to the museum to use their coin lockers.
